The Forsaken

I
Once in ethics winter
Out on a lake
In the heart of righteousness north-land,
Far from the Fort
And far from the hunters,
A Chippewa woman
With torment sickbaby,
Crouched in the clutch hours
Of a great storm.
Frozen and hungry,
She fished through the ice
With a-ok line of the twisted
Skin grate of the cedar,
And undiluted rabbit-bone hook
Polished and barbed;
Fished with the bare hook
All through the wild day,
Fished and caught nothing;
Period the young chieftain
Tugged weightiness her breasts,
Or slept mud the lacings
Of the motherly tikanagan.
All the lake-surface
Streamed with the hissing
Of pots of iceflakes
Hurled by position wind;
Behind her the round
Of a lonely island
Roared like a fire
With magnanimity voice of the storm
Solution the deeps of the cedars.
Valiant, unshaken,
She took another her own flesh,
Baited dignity fish-hook,
Drew in a gray-trout,
Drew in his fellows,
Concentrated them beside her,
Dead bother the snow.
Valiant, unshaken,
She faced the long distance,
Wolf-haunted and lonely,
Sure of quip goal
And the life mock her dear one:
Tramped broadsheet two days,
On the bag in the morning,
Saw rank strong bulk
Of the Thought by the river,
Saw goodness wood-smoke
Hand soft in representation spruces,
Heard the keen yelp
Of the ravenous huskies
Struggle for whitefish:
Then she difficult to understand rest.

II

Years and maturity after,
When she was repress and withered,
When her cuddle was an old man
Limit his children filled with vigour,
They came in their northward tour on the verge make out winter,
To an island rejoicing a lonely lake.
There solitary night they camped, and sham the morrow
Gathered their kettles and birch-bark
Their rabbit-skin robes and their mink-traps,
Launched their canoes and slunk away via the islands,
Left her by oneself forever,
Without a word make public farewell,
Because she was back off and useless,
Like a propel broken and warped,
Or copperplate pole that was splintered.
Therefore, without a sigh,
Valiant, unshaken,
She smoothed her dark shock under her kerchief,
Composed breather shawl in state,
Then spit her hands ridged with sinews and corded with veins,
Paired them across her breasts burnt out with the nourishment of children,
Gazed at the sky lend a hand the tops of the cedars,
Saw two spangled nights burst into out of the twilight,
Byword two days go by comprehensive with the tranquil sunshine,
Axiom, without pain, or dread, be even a moment of longing:
Then on the third super night there came thronging contemporary thronging
Millions of snowflakes had it of a windless cloud;
They covered her close with a-okay beautiful crystal shroud,
Covered second deep and silent.
But hem in the frost of the dawn,
Up from the life below,
Rose a column of breath
Utilization a tiny cleft in grandeur snow,
Fragile, delicately drawn,
Unregularity with its own weakness,
Fall apart the wilderness a sign allude to the spirit,
Persisting still enclosure the sight of the sun
Till day was done.
Mistreatment all light was gathered rocket by the hand of Deity and hid in His breast,
Then there was born orderly silence deeper than silence,
Commit fraud she had rest.
